ButterflyNetRender

What is ButterflyNetRender?

ButterflyNetRender is a popular network rendering controller for Lightwave, Maya, Messiah Studio, Modo, 3DSmax, XSI, Digital Fusion, After Effects, Cinema 4D and more…

ButterflyNetRender includes a Automatic setup wizard for LightWave 3D, Modo and Messiah which really takes the pain out of setting up a render farm.

Setup of other application types is also easy; Simply select the location of the render executable and the setup template contains all the default settings required. These settings can also be modified if desired.

(NOTE: If you find an application without a setup template – simple let me know and I can help configure your application with ButterflyNetRender.)

Overview

ButterflyNetRender™ (BNR) is a popular network rendering controller for Lightwave, Maya, Messiah Studio, Modo, 3DSmax, XSI, Digital Fusion, After Effects, Cinema 4D, Nuke, and more…

Feature summary

The Studio and Professional versions includes node Grouping, Priority and Split Frames (you can speed up rendering time for a single frame by distributing it across more than 1 rendernode) – ie: slice the frame into parts and ButterflyNetRender will automatically reassemble after the parts are complete.

The Studio versions also include unlimited render nodes and the Custom batch commands, which will let you control any command line console executable.

Applications

BNR is comprised of 2 applications:

‘ButterflyNetRender – Controller’:
This will be installed on one machine and will be used the Control the Rendering scenes – It will communication with the BNR Clients

‘ButterflyNetRender – Client’:
This will be installed on all the machines that will be used for ‘rendering’ the animation frames. The BNR Client can have 1 or more ‘rendernodes’ – that can be assigned to a ‘CPU’ on the machine.

System Requirements for ButterflyNetRender

The BNR Controller is a ‘Windows’ application with a Web User Interface (accessed from a browser).  The BNR Client runs under Windows.

  • Operating System: Windows 2008, 2008r2, 2013, 2016, Windows 7, Windows 8, Window 10
  • A Shared network directory that the Controller and Clients can access.
  • Support rendering software like Lightwave, Messiah, Maya, Modo, C4D, etc…
  • Static IP address/Name for the Controller that the Client machines can locate (ping). (The client can also be configured using DHCP)
  • Private secure network to host the WebUI application.  (Not intended to be hosted on the Internet)

  • First install the Controller application and configure it. Then install the Client applications.  The Clients need to know which IP Address/Name the Controller is using to configure them.
